{"id":301,"date":"2014-02-28T15:17:50","date_gmt":"2014-02-28T20:17:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/adsecurity.org\/?p=301"},"modified":"2015-02-19T22:13:46","modified_gmt":"2015-02-20T03:13:46","slug":"kms-part-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/adsecurity.org\/?p=301","title":{"rendered":"KMS Part 2"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This is an addendum post to the <a title=\"Microsoft Key Management Server (KMS) Details\" href=\"https:\/\/adsecurity.org\/?p=284\">original KMS info post<\/a> with a bunch of useful info I gathered recently.<\/p>\n<p>Useful KMS and Windows activation commands:<\/p>\n<p>Change Windows 2008 R2 license key type from Retail to KMS activated:<br \/>\n<em>Slmgr \/ipk 489J6-VHDMP-X63PK-3K798-CPX3Y<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Clear cached KMS host:<br \/>\n<em>Slmgr.vbs \/ckms<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Disable KMS host caching:<br \/>\n<em>Slmgr.vbs \/ckhc<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Flush local system DNS cache:<br \/>\n<em>Slmgr.vbs \/flushdns<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Force immediate activation:<br \/>\n<em>Slmgr.vbs \/ato<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Enable KMS Host caching:<br \/>\n<em>Slmgr.vbs \/skhc<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Point activation to a specific KMS Server (disables KMS autodiscovery via DNS):<br \/>\n<em>Slmgr.vbs \/skms:SERVER<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Display detailed license information (&amp; KMS Host Info):<br \/>\n<em>Slmgr.vbs \/dlv<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Get information about OS activation from KMS Server:<br \/>\n<em>slmgr.vbs \/ dli<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Configure a server to run KMS:<\/p>\n<p>Install the KMS activation key by running the following:<br \/>\n<em> slmgr.vbs \/ipk &lt;KMS Activation Key&gt;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Run the following command to immediately activate:<br \/>\n<em>slmgr.vbs \/ato<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Restart the Software Licensing Service (SPPSVC):<br \/>\n<em>net stop sppsvc &amp;&amp; net start sppsvc<\/em><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/technet.microsoft.com\/en-us\/library\/ff793407.aspx\">http:\/\/technet.microsoft.com\/en-us\/library\/ff793407.aspx<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Software Licensing Service (SPPSVC) handles registration of the DNS service (sRV) record which is created in the same DNS domain the KMS host is installed uder the _tcp subzone.<\/p>\n<p>KMS will automatically handle activations for systems in the same DNS Domain.\u00a0 In order to expand the scope to other domains, a registry hack is required.<\/p>\n<p>Open Regedit and navigate to<br \/>\n<em>HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\SOFTWARE\\Microsoft\\Windows NT\\CurrentVersion\\SoftwareProtectionPlatform<\/em><br \/>\n<em> Create a new Multi-String key called DnsDomainPublishList<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Edit the key and add each additional DNS domain suffic that KMS should publish to on a separate line.<br \/>\nRestart the Software Licensing Service (SPPSVC):<br \/>\n<em>net stop sppsvc &amp;&amp;
